A Wine Making Kit Is A Winery In A Box
Defined Tag: Wine Making Kit. A wine making kit provides the maximum chance of success for wine enthusiasts wanting to make their own wine at home. Wine making at home can be done by trial and error, although it is far too easy to become discouraged and quit. On the other hand, it is possible to pour grape juice in a bucket, forget about it, and produce perfect wine. The latter is very unlikely to happen, so a kit of wine making supplies gives the beginning vintner the best chance for success. What's in your wine kit? Winemaking at home requires a couple of large containers for fermenting the grape juice into wine. Buy wine kits with food-grade plastic containers if you can find them. Plastic won't break, and the food-grade plastic ensures that a chemical taste won't leach from the container. The first container ferments the wine and needs to be about 30 liters (about 7.5 gallons) in volume. When the first fermentation step is done, gently siphon the wine into the second container, called a carboy. The carboy contains 23 liters (almost 6 gallons) of wine, and holds the new wine while the final fermentation occurs. Your home wine kit will also contain a bewildering array of tubing, stoppers, clamps, and other mad-scientist gadgets. Don't let this worry you. Some of the stoppers and tubing are designed to release gas from the fermenting grape juice so that pressure doesn't build. Your home winery kit requires that the wine be transferred gently between containers, so you'll find transfer tubing and a siphon. The hydrometer is a gadget that looks like the hybrid offspring of a thermometer and a turkey baster. It floats in the wine to measure the density of the wine. Alcohol and water have different densities, so changing density means that fermentation is still occurring. Once the density in your home wine kit stops changing from one day to the next, the process is complete and the wine is ready to bottle. The home wine kit is an inexpensive way to delve into making wine at home. All the parts are reusable when properly sterilized between uses. After the initial investment, the only costs are for disposable kit items like bottles, corks, and don't forget grape juice. Once you are successful with your new wine making kit, however, you will probably be upgrading to new newest and hottest wine making gadgets.
