A Bunch Of Information About The Wine Grape
Defined Tag: Wine Grape. A wine grape describes any variety grape grown to make wine. The other category is the table grape, which is grown to be eaten fresh like other fruit. Not all wines are made from grapes. Rice wine (sake) and barley wine are starch based alcoholic beverages, more similar to beer than wine. Plum, black currant, and elderberry wines are made from fruits other than grapes. Only wines made from vineyard grapes attain the pinnacle of taste and aroma associated with the finest vintages. What makes the lowly grape so special? The grape is a fruit that grows on a woody vine of the plant family called Vitaceae. A crop of grapes is called a vineyard, and the cultivation of grapes for wine is called viticulture. This fruit grows in bunches or clusters of up to 300 individual grapes. Each grape contains a seed, except for certain seedless varieties. Grape varieties can range in color from black to red to white. Grapes can be eaten raw, or processed to make jams, jellies, and juices. The grape seeds can be crushed to make grape seed oil, and the fruits can be fermented to make wine. How did the process of turning grapes into wine begin? It was probably an accident, as are many such discoveries. Imagine a tub or barrel of harvested grapes that was forgotten. The farmer returned a couple of weeks later and tasted the aromatic liquid in the bottom of the barrel. This accidental wine was possible because the grape contains the perfect composition to naturally ferment without adding extra sugars, enzymes, or additives. After the farmer's first taste, the art of winemaking may have been born. The type of grape that ferments will greatly determine the smell, taste, and alcohol content of the resulting wine. Particular varieties of grapes called varietals became associated with the wine they produce. For example, Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produce red Bordeaux, while red Burgundy comes from Pinot Noir grapes. Multiple hybrids of wine grapes exist, created to produce enough wines to fill event the largest wine rack. The grapevine produces one of the smallest fruits, but creates one of the largest fruit-based businesses in the world. The versatile grape is found in juice, jam, jelly, wine, grapeseed oil, and in kitchen fruit bowls. Only the particular magic of the wine grape can produce a vintage with the perfect aroma and taste.
